Stop the National Park Service from commercializing our parks! The purpose of our national parks is to conserve scenery, historical objects and wildlife for future generations, not to promote corporations or their products. With utter disregard for government integrity and our national parks, the National Park Service is proposing to solicit corporations to sponsor our national parks, and to allow corporations to feature that sponsorship in their public relations or advertising campaigns. (Consider the prospect of ads for "Preparation H, the Official Sponsor of the Grand Canyon," or "Nexium, the Official Sponsor of Lassen Volcanic National Park.") They want to give corporations opportunities to put their logos in the parks, on park brochures, kiosks and benches, among other places. The National Park Service is accepting public comments on its proposal until Monday, December 5th. Tell the Park Service to stick to its mission. Our parks do not exist to help companies make money, or to act as billboards for corporate self-promotion. And government solicitation of big money from corporations in exchange for public relations assistance is corrupt and outrageous. |
