Tell Congress to Investigate the Marketing of Mobile Phones to Children!

Companies are marketing mobile phones to children as young as six years of age. Even the Disney Co. has jumped on the bandwagon. On July 6th, they announced their intention -- in a partnership with Sprint -- to offer wireless telephone service to children 8-12 years of age

This is completely irresponsible. There are plenty of big unanswered questions about kids and mobile phones. For example:

  • How will mobile phones affect children’s privacy? Will child predators use them as a new way to gain access to their victims?

  • Will marketers use them to target kids with telemarketing, text message ads, ads for pornography, adver-games, etc.?

  • Will young kids run up huge phone bills from 888 numbers? Will their parents have to pay those bills?

  • Will the ringing of kids’ mobile phones disrupt classrooms across the country?

  • There is preliminary evidence suggesting that mobile phones may cause benign tumors of the ear and brain. How will mobile phones affect children’s health?

Tell your Members of Congress to investigate and hold hearings on the impact of mobile phones on children's privacy, education, safety and health.
